Confession time – I received these amazing items from Walnut Hollow to complete a DIY project for Handmade Holiday Hop. I had signed up for the hop a while back before my naive sense of awesomeness kicked in.
The point? The excuse? The reason behind my lack of DIY motivation?
Not my husband but the upcoming project called A BABY. Yeah, we’re pretty pumped considering this was one hell of a DIY project after 3 rounds of IVF.
Now that I’m starting to feel human again and am willing to actually leave the sofa, I was able to complete one part of this project for the Handmade Holiday Hop.
Walnut Hollow sent me two pieces to work with: a rustic pallet and a rustic, live edge wood panel. The Walnut Hollow site is well designed and this makes it super easy (or ridiculously hard if you are indecisive like myself) to choose a wood item to create a DIY project.
I started with the easiest project and one that will be gifted to Mom and Dad (you’re welcome). Because the Handmade Holiday Hop is all about gifts that are easily crafted for upcoming gift giving season, this is a great for the dog lover on your list. And, BONUS, there is a chance for you to win a prize pack – check out the rafflecopter below!
But, for the sake of honesty because lying is WAY too much work, I am not 100% happy with the finished product and will be coming up with an additional part to this post.
It was fitting that the day I needed to go to Lowes was also the day that Mom and Dad asked me to watch their pup, Sunny. So I had an assistant who was quite demanding of any and all human attention. But she is pretty damn cute.
After locating the hooks and hardware needed for the project, I went in search of a basket and scored with an Allen and Roth clearance item.
My starting product is the Rustic 24″ X 12″ Pallet from Walnut Hollow – it’s lightweight but very sturdy.
Because I’ve called this a simple dog wall station, it really is very, very simple. It’s a matter of screwing in the hardware and attaching the basket. But again, I want improve upon this design. You could stain or paint the pallet prior to assembling if you wanted to move away from the natural color.
– 1 pack of D-ring hangers (make sure to choose a medium weight type)
– 2 packs of double hooks
– 2 packs of single hooks
1. Attach the D-ring hangers to the back of the pallet using the provided screws.
2. Attach the double hooks to the top front corners (not too close to the edge or you will split the wood) – these are for collars and leashes
3. Attach the single hooks to the side (or each side if you wanted) – these can be for dog bags, towels, flashlights, etc…
4. Attach the basket to the front of the pallet – use glue first and then screw into the wood.
5. Add dog stuff and admire.
I LIKE it but I don’t LOVE it. I am vowing to avenge my DIY self and redo this project THIS WEEK. So I’m asking for suggestions: dog treat jar? chalkboard? Now onto the Hop!
*Although I received products from Walnut Hollow at no cost, the opinions, sarcasm, cursing, and grumping expressed above are my own*
